The Most Important Investment Any Busy, Working Mom Can Make (Plus, 3 Keys To Living Your Best Life)

October 19, 2018

When you read the title of this blog post, you might be thinking about buying stocks, bonds, or real estate. Or, you may even be thinking about what the best life insurance policy is for a busy working mom. But none of these are the investment that I’m talking about in today’s blog post.

The most important investment that any busy, working mom can make in 2018, is an investment in yourself! Yes! You read that correctly! Moms, you must invest in yourself! It’s not enough to spend all of your money, time, and energy investing in the livelihood of your children, your spouse, your family, your job, business, etc. You must make a conscious decision, and a consistent effort to invest in yourself, if you want to live your best life.

So today, let’s talk about the three keys to living your best life, as a busy, working mom.

The Top 3 Keys To Living Your Best Life As A Busy, Working Mom

1. Optimal Health. Investing in your health is one of the greatest gifts you can give to yourself and your family. As they say, you can invest in living a healthy life now, or invest in excessive medical bills and prescription drugs later. The choice is yours. You can’t enjoy life to the fullest if you don’t have optimal health. There’s no amount of money, or materialistic things that can replace good health. If you want to be able to maximize the quality of your relationships, your time with your children, and your partner/spouse, you must prioritize and invest in your health.

When it comes to investing in your health, it’s important to look at it from a long-term perspective. What may seem like an expensive investment now, in the long run, is really pennies, especially when you consider the positive impact that certain habits, foods, and supplements can have on your life. That’s why I’ve chosen to invest in these awesome health and wellness supplements. Because I recognize the importance of investing in my health, even in the midst of the craziness of working two, full-time jobs!

The challenge for most moms though, is believing that you are worth the investment. So many times, we have no problem spending money on our children, for whatever they need or want, or for our household. But when it comes to something for us, we always hesitate, and have so many excuses as to why we can’t spend money on something for ourselves, even if it is to help us live a healthier life. But we’ve got to do better, because we are worth it! I don’t know about you, but I want to be around to play with my future grandkids, and I want to be able to be an active grandparent. That means I must invest in my health now!

2. Wealth-Building. The word legacy is thrown around a lot these days, and I’m not sure how many people really understand the true meaning of the word. According to Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary, here is what legacy means:

legacy

1 : a gift by will especially of money or other personal property : bequest "She left us a legacy of a million dollars."

2 : something transmitted by or received from an ancestor or predecessor or from the past, "The war left a legacy of pain and suffering."

So my question for you today is, are you building a legacy for your children? It is rare that someone is able to build true wealth, strictly from working a full-time job. There typically has to be some other form(s) of income in place, to help you grow your money exponentially. I mentioned some of them at the beginning of this article (stocks, bonds, real estate investments). But if you do your research, you’ll find that the wealthiest people in the world, those who are able to live comfortably, give generously, and leave a financial legacy for their families, are all business owners. This is another reason why I’m so determined to grow my business (Make It Fun NYC), and why I make sure that I have multiple streams of income (network marketing, affiliate marketing, brand partnerships/sponsorships, etc.). I want to be able to live a life of financial freedom, and also freedom of my time.

I want to make sure that my sons have a great childhood, and a solid financial future. I am determined to leave a powerful legacy for my children, that impacts generations! I want to have full control of my time, be able to travel, and not constantly be trading dollars for hours. I believe that if you’re reading this blog post, you feel the same way too. If you do, make sure to post a comment below, and let me know what you want your legacy to be, and what some of your financial goals are. I would be happy to help you reach those goals, and share more with you about what’s been working for me. Hey, we’re all in this together. Let’s help build each other up!

3. Your Happiness. Your happiness should be non-negotiable. You don’t play with it, and you don’t compromise on it. The popular phrase, “Happy wife, happy life”, exists for good reason. As moms, our attitudes and moods directly impact our family, and the energy of our home environment. If we’re not happy, no one else in our family will be able to experience true happiness. So it behooves us to keep our lives filled with the things that we enjoy, whether that’s working out, jumping rope (like me), girl’s night out, mani/pedis, shopping, spa days, reading books, attending events, going to shows, dancing, or whatever it is.

We need to protect and cultivate our own happiness. It is no one else’s responsibility but our own. It’s actually a dangerous thing to rely on other people to make you happy. Because when they don’t deliver, and they disappoint you, it can really throw you off your game. Find happiness within yourself, and make sure that you are happy with yourself too.

Are you loving yourself today? Are you speaking words of life to yourself? Are you thinking positive thoughts? Are you making time for self-care regularly? Are you getting enough rest? Are you physically active at least 3-5 times a week? Your inner happiness is tied to all of these things, and you are the only one that can make yourself happy. The happiness that other people bring into your life is a bonus! Prioritize your happiness moms! You deserve to be happy!

I hope this post resonated with you today, and that you have a clear understanding of why the greatest investment that you can make, is an investment in yourself. Remember, your health is an investment, not an expense. If you want to live your best life, you have to make sure that these three components of your life are at the top of your priority list. Everything else comes after.
